Oma Nnadi Mourns Late Alex Ekubo, Recounts Their Final Conversation

Oma Nnadi Mourns Late Alex Ekubo, Recounts Their Final Conversation — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Nollywood actress Oma Nnadi has shared a heartfelt tribute to her close friend and colleague, Alex Ekubo, after his Service of Songs. She recalls their bond since 2014, when he stood by her in her first cinema role. Over the years he became like family, offering wisdom through countless talks about life, faith and purpose. Oma says their last call felt like any other — strong, cheerful and hopeful. That makes his passing feel unreal, but she finds comfort knowing he may have left this world, yet remains alive in the hearts of those who loved him. Alex Ekubo died on May 11 at age 40 after a battle with metastatic kidney cancer. A Service of Songs was held on June 10 at Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, where many of Nollywood’s biggest names gathered to honour him.

It's interesting she highlights wisdom from him, but public tributes can sometimes gloss over private challenges they faced.

I appreciate her grief, yet I wonder if these stories after his passing offer more comfort to her reputation than to his legacy.

Perhaps fellow actors could share advice that helped them cope with loss, creating a support circle for Nollywood peers in grief.
