Open Heavens Devotional, July 30, 2026: Avoiding Temptation

Today’s devotional reflects on avoiding temptation. James 1:12–16 teaches that temptation is not from God. It grows when unchecked desires draw a person toward sin. Believers are encouraged to confront harmful desires with the help of the Holy Spirit. They should also avoid people, places and situations that could make them vulnerable. For example, anyone struggling with dishonesty around money should avoid handling other people’s funds until they have developed stronger self-control. Temptation may come unexpectedly, but it does not have to take root. The message urges Christians to flee every appearance of evil, seek God’s help and choose actions that protect their faith. Key point: Flee every appearance of evil. Scripture reading: James 1:12–16. Memory verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
