When Activism Meets Bullying: Igboho’s Threats and the Battle for Digital Influence
Social media has become an arena for virtual brawls that sometimes cross into serious governance and security concerns. The recent clash between Sunday Igboho and influencers like Funnythinker and Sowore began when Igboho declared the south-west a no-go zone for the ADC’s campaign. Activists challenged him in videos and were later met with alleged threats to their safety. Funnythinker’s forced apology under traditional pressure and subsequent retraction sparked debate over influence, power, and free speech. I am disturbed that a private individual can issue threats without consequence, and that digital activism often collapses under external pressure. This pattern reveals a culture where loud performance is mistaken for deep conviction. I return to Igboho’s journey from ethnic champion to self-appointed enforcer. If influencers and leaders wish to contribute to public life, they must do so from a place of knowledge, respect for the law, and genuine service.
