NPFL Boss Celebrates Chibuike Nwaiwu’s Super Eagles Debut

NPFL Boss Celebrates Chibuike Nwaiwu’s Super Eagles Debut

Gbenga Elegbeleye has praised Chibuike Nwaiwu’s debut for the Super Eagles. Nwaiwu came on at half-time in Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly win over Iran. Nwaiwu began his career with Heartland before moving to Enyimba. He helped Enyimba secure a record ninth NPFL title in 2022/23. He then joined Wolfsberger AC, won the Austrian Cup, and moved to Trabzonspor in January. Elegbeleye called Nwaiwu’s rapid rise a “significant source of pride” for the NPFL. He added that this achievement will inspire league players to raise their game for moves abroad and national team selection.

I'm not convinced a single friendly appearance proves he can handle tougher international matches.

The best step now is to monitor his training intensity and match minutes in the upcoming qualifiers.
