NYSC Vows Enhanced Security for Corps Members, Denies Mandatory Safety Waivers

NYSC Vows Enhanced Security for Corps Members, Denies Mandatory Safety Waivers

The NYSC Director-General confirms the scheme has stepped up security measures to protect corps members across Nigeria. He says NYSC works closely with the police, military and intelligence agencies. Camps now get reinforced security during orientation, and in some locations corps members are escorted to sites by troops. The scheme has relocated vulnerable camps and will not deploy members where staff presence or security reports are unfavourable. Travellers are advised to avoid night journeys and stay at safe locations. Contrary to rumours, NYSC is not asking members to sign any undertaking absolving it of responsibility. Welfare support such as health insurance remains in place.

I agree, these enhanced security steps should help corps members feel more secure during orientation.

Even with police and military presence, isolated incidents could still occur if local camp management isn't fully on board.

I'm not convinced a simple security boost can replace thorough screening and accountability for any personnel at the camps.

Camp organizers should also run regular safety drills and clear reporting channels so corps members know exactly where to turn in emergencies.
