Sanusi: Super Eagles Could Have Qualified If Chelle Had Coached From Start
Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary General of the Nigerian Football Federation, believes the Super Eagles would have secured a World Cup spot if Eric Chelle had been in charge from the start of qualifying. He cited instability in the coaching setup as a key factor in Nigeria’s elimination. Nigeria fell short after a playoff defeat by DR Congo, but Sanusi pointed out that results improved significantly under Chelle’s brief tenure. He highlighted the team’s strong showing that led to a bronze finish at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. With the pain of missing the World Cup still fresh, the NFF is now focused on rebuilding the squad and gearing up for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
