Shorunmu to Nwabali: Secure a Club or Lose Super Eagles Spot
Ike Shorunmu has warned Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali that his status as Nigeria’s first choice is under threat if he remains without a club. Nwabali left South Africa’s Chippa United in February 2026 after playing a key role in Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 AFCON and their runner-up run at the 2023 tournament. Shorunmu told a national news outlet that Nwabali must play week in, week out to maintain form and impress new coach Eric Chelle as he rebuilds the squad for the 2027 qualifiers. Reports suggest Nwabali is in advanced talks with a Saudi Arabian club, with negotiations expected to conclude soon.
