Lagos State Disburses ₦8bn Pension Relief, Boosts Welfare for Public Servants
The Lagos State Government has paid over ₦8.04bn to retirees under the Contributory Pension and Defined Benefit Schemes. This payment highlights the administration’s commitment to strengthening worker welfare and improving pension administration across the state. Key milestones include the recruitment of 4,837 officers, integration of political appointees, and training for new administrative staff. The government also approved 25 substantive director appointments and issued 84 service-wide policy circulars. Staff welfare measures included a ₦50,000 palliative payment to workers, a ₦32,000 monthly pension increment, and an annual health screening initiative. Over 750 long-serving officers were honoured, while outstanding staff received cash rewards, vehicles, and skills training. Additional support programmes covered ₦1.6bn in housing loans for 2,033 beneficiaries, a ₦1bn car refurbishment facility, and interactive sessions to prepare retirees for post-service life. Procurement reforms and innovation initiatives helped Lagos rank best for Ease of Doing Business.
