Cheap ₦50 “Yo-Yo” Milk: Safe for Our Children?
Here in the North, some vendors rebag powdered milk into small nylon packs and sell them for just ₦50–₦200. Many parents buy this for its low price. When mixed, it tastes like baby powder with groundnut oil and sugar. A standard refill of Peak milk now costs around ₦4,000 and won’t last a week for my family of nine. My children love hot tea in the mornings, especially during the rainy season, so I’d rather give them plain tea with sugar. I asked one seller why the milk is so cheap, but he had no real explanation. No one knows what chemicals might be added to make this so-called milk. Is this safe to give to our kids?
