Reno Omokri Slams Davido Over FIFA Kidnap Protest, Expresses Shock at Insult
Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has responded to a public insult from Afrobeats superstar Davido after criticizing the singer’s campaign for abducted schoolchildren at a FIFA World Cup countdown concert. Omokri said he was surprised that Davido, an international celebrity, would use vulgar language on his Instagram profile instead of engaging with his concerns. He argued that showcasing kidnappings on a global stage could inadvertently aid terrorists by spreading fear, recruiting new members, and raising funds. He contrasted Davido’s approach with that of American streamer IShowSpeed, who used the same event to promote Nigeria positively. Citing past abductions and a famous quote by Margaret Thatcher, Omokri warned that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism.” Despite the heated exchange, Omokri ended on a conciliatory note, thanking Davido for his feedback and offering blessings.
