Barrister Giwa Seeks Passport for UK Heart Treatment Amid Forgery Charge
A human rights lawyer, Victor Giwa, told the FCT High Court he needs urgent medical care to defend himself properly in a forgery case filed by the Inspector-General of Police. In motion No M/8583/26, Giwa said court delays have frustrated his appointments with his UK doctors. He asked for the release of his international passport between July 5 and July 22, 2026, to receive heart treatment and medication under family care. Giwa claimed he suffers from heart issues causing high blood pressure of 170/120 mmHg. He warned that missing treatment increases his risk of stroke and cardiac arrest. He noted previous court adjournments on May 25, June 3, and June 10 made him miss appointments on May 28 and June 5. The police accuse him of forging the letterhead of Chief Awa Kalu. However, Chief Kalu wrote to the IGP on May 30, 2025, denying any complaint or forgery by Giwa. Despite this clarification, charges remain pending.
