Igali Outlines Bayelsa’s Long-Term Sports Development Plan Under Diri
Bayelsa State Sports Commissioner Daniel Igali says the state is pursuing a long-term sports development system focused on talent discovery, athlete welfare, coaching, sports science and modern facilities. Igali credited Governor Douye Diri’s administration with making sports a development priority. He said the plan goes beyond winning medals and is intended to support youth empowerment, tourism, public health, jobs and social cohesion. He highlighted the ongoing Igbogene and Sampou stadium projects as investments that could host competitions and create economic opportunities. Igali added that facilities must be backed by trained coaches, grassroots competitions and proper athlete support to produce future champions.
