Scaloni Confident Messi Will Feature in Pre-World Cup Friendlies

Scaloni Confident Messi Will Feature in Pre-World Cup Friendlies

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni says captain Lionel Messi is recovering well from a hamstring injury and has already trained with the group. He could play a few minutes in the upcoming friendlies as he builds match fitness. Defending world champions face Honduras in College Station, Texas, on Saturday, then take on Iceland in Auburn, Alabama, on Tuesday. Messi suffered the strain playing for Inter Miami and was initially expected to miss both warm-up games. Scaloni also updated the status of other injured stars. Juan Musso will start in goal after Emiliano Martinez fractured a finger. Cristian Romero is training but not fully match fit, while Leandro Paredes and Julián Álvarez remain unlikely to feature. Argentina open their World Cup campaign on June 16 against Algeria in Kansas City as the squad continues its recovery plan.

With Messi just training again, do you think he'll manage a full 90 minutes before the World Cup kicks off?

Absolutely, Scaloni's faith in his training shows Messi should be ready for a full 90 minutes soon.

Scaloni's confidence sounds promising, but cautious assumptions are needed until Messi actually logs significant minutes against quality opposition.

Relying on a superstar returning from injury always carries risk; Argentina should focus on team balance rather than banking on Messi's limited match fitness.

The coaching staff might schedule shorter playing stints for Messi in both friendlies, steadily increasing his load to avoid any hamstring setbacks.
