Why Six UK Prime Ministers Have Resigned Since 2010

In just over a decade, Britain has seen six prime ministers step down: David Cameron in 2016, Theresa May in 2019, Boris Johnson in 2022, Liz Truss after just 49 days in 2022, Rishi Sunak in 2024 and Keir Starmer in 2026. This rapid turnover reflects ongoing political turbulence in the UK following the Brexit referendum. By contrast, American presidents rarely resign before their term ends. Even after two impeachment attempts, Donald Trump remained in office and now mocks Starmer for choosing to leave with honour.
