NSCDC Rescues 15-Year-Old Girl from Kidnappers in Edo, Arrests Two Suspects

NSCDC Rescues 15-Year-Old Girl from Kidnappers in Edo, Arrests Two Suspects

The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps rescued a 15-year-old girl who was abducted in Oghu Community, Ewohimi. The teenager went missing on June 19 after leaving home to buy a phone charging cord. Her brother reported the disappearance when the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦800,000. They warned the family against informing security agencies. NSCDC operatives tracked the suspects to the community and arrested two individuals. The girl was rescued unharmed and the suspects are in custody as investigations continue.

It's interesting that it took until after the girl's brother reported her missing for any action to follow.

While the rescue is commendable, I wonder if arresting two suspects truly addresses the root causes of kidnapping.

Communities should organize neighborhood watch groups and regularly report suspicious movements to security forces for faster response times.
