Inside Ojude Oba: Nigeria’s Grand Celebration of Culture and Style

Inside Ojude Oba: Nigeria’s Grand Celebration of Culture and Style — 1 of 5
1 / 5

Ojude Oba is a yearly cultural festival held in Ijebuland, Ogun State. Its name means “the king’s forecourt,” and it brings families, friends, celebrities and cultural groups together soon after Ileya. Traditional fashion takes center stage at this event. Men arrive in richly embroidered agbada and fila, while women shine in iro and buba with perfectly tied gele and ornate accessories. The highlight is the Balogun horse riders, who enter on decorated horses in regal attire. Age-grade Regberegbe groups also parade in matching outfits, each vying to impress the Awujale with colour, fabric and style.
