Anže Kopitar’s Journey: From Slovenia to NHL Legend
Anže Kopitar made history as the first Slovenian to play in the NHL. Drafted 11th overall in 2005, he spent 20 seasons with the Los Angeles Kings and set franchise records for points and assists. Known as one of the league’s best two-way centres, Kopitar won the Frank J. Selke Trophy twice and earned multiple Lady Byng Memorial nominations. He captained the Kings from 2016 and reached 1,000 career points in 2021. On the international stage, Kopitar led Slovenia in scoring at various World Championships and junior tournaments. Off the ice, he speaks five languages, supports NK Maribor, and organizes an annual charity golf event for youth.
