Infantino Defends Sky-High World Cup 2026 Ticket Prices and Visa Snub

Infantino Defends Sky-High World Cup 2026 Ticket Prices and Visa Snub

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has defended the steep ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup in North America. He said list prices reflect the local market and warned that lower face values could boost secondary black markets. Infantino noted that 130,000 tickets at $60 were allocated to fans through national federations. He compared the average World Cup cost to playoff ticket prices in the MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL. He also addressed the US visa denial for Somali referee Omar Artan, stressing that FIFA cannot override government decisions. He praised efforts to secure entry for Iran’s team despite political tensions. Infantino welcomed investigations by US state attorneys general, saying FIFA’s legal team prepared thoroughly. He hinted at seeking another term after projecting record revenue for the tournament.

Maybe FIFA could reserve a chunk of affordable seats for underprivileged supporters, then adjust pricing based on local income levels.
