D’Tigers’ Michael Eric Targets 2027 World Cup, Launches Elite Basketball Camp
Michael Eric has his sights set on guiding Nigeria to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup after a perfect run in the African qualifiers. He praised Coach David Fizdale’s clear vision and aims to win all three games in the next window to secure qualification with confidence. Ahead of the upcoming round, Eric will host the “Top 50 Elite Basketball Camp” in Lagos on 24 July under his Erico Sports Legacy Foundation. The programme will bring together the nation’s best 14–18 year-olds for intensive drills, mentorship and life-skills training. More than 1,000 youths have benefited so far, with several earning scholarships abroad. Eric emphasises education as a crucial pillar of the foundation’s work. He hopes to establish a full basketball academy with international partnerships and secure sponsorships to sustain the project. Top performers from the camp will be considered for club trials and further support.
