FG Approves $2.99bn for Lagos, Kano and Kaduna Rail Lines; Launches Power Reform Taskforce
The Federal Executive Council has approved $2.99bn to fund three major rail projects: the Lagos Green Line Phase One, the Kano Metro City Rail and the Kaduna Light Rail. Financing will come through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated with matching contributions. The Lagos Green Line will connect Marina to the Lekki corridor, aiming to ease traffic on one of Africa’s busiest routes. The Kano Metro will upgrade urban transport in Kano, while the Kaduna Light Rail will boost mobility and commerce in that city. In a parallel move, a 10-member power reform taskforce has been established to address national electricity challenges. Chaired by the President and supported by the Special Adviser on Power, the committee brings together key ministers and sector stakeholders to overhaul the power sector and drive industrial growth.
