Rivers United Sign Ex-Enyimba Captain Awazie and Dead-Ball Expert Obot Ahead of CAF Champions League

Rivers United have continued to bolster their squad with experienced players ahead of the 2026/2027 CAF Champions League campaign. Former Enyimba captain Ekene Awazie and ex-Abia Warriors standout Imo Obot are the latest additions to Finidi George’s side. Awazie played as a winger, while Obot is known for his dead-ball expertise. Salman Abubakar, a defensive midfielder who featured for the People’s Elephant last season, has also completed his move to Port Harcourt. Other recruits include defender Innocent Gabriel, Kano Pillars centre-back Muktar Mohammed, and Plateau United midfielder Chinechem Ugueze. Relegated Bayelsa United left-back Ubong Williams and midfielder Alex Oyowah, returning after two seasons with Remo Stars, are among the new faces. The players have already started training at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa. Club officials say an official statement on the new signings will be issued soon.
