Malawi Coach Chombo: Defeating Nigeria Would Be a Historic Milestone

Malawi Coach Chombo: Defeating Nigeria Would Be a Historic Milestone

Malawi women’s U-20 head coach Maggie Chombo says beating Nigeria’s Falconets in the first leg of the 2026 U-20 World Cup final round qualifiers would mark a major breakthrough for Malawian football. Malawi earned this shot at history after a 6-2 aggregate win over Guinea-Bissau. Previous U-20 campaigns saw them exit against Zimbabwe in 2020 and Zambia in 2021. Chombo admits Nigeria’s experience and World Cup pedigree make them strong opponents. Still, she expects a positive display at home and believes a win would spark huge growth in women’s football back in Malawi.
