OSSIEC Confirms Validity of February 22, 2025 Osun LG Elections After Court Dismissal

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission has reaffirmed that the February 22, 2025 Local Government elections and the resulting Chairmen and Councillors remain legally valid. A Federal High Court in Osogbo dismissed a suit seeking to nullify those polls and remove the elected officials. All reliefs sought by the sacked APC chairmen were refused and their originating summons was struck out. In letters to the DSS, police and other security agencies, OSSIEC cited an executive order directing the removal of unrecognised chairmen and the protection and reinstatement of the duly elected officials. No court has stayed the judgment or blocked its enforcement.
