His Imperial Majesty Eze (Dr.) Thomas Obiwuru Obiefule, Okairuro and Ezekaibeya of Umudioka Ancient Kingdom, has conferred the chieftaincy title “Akaekpuchi Onwa of Umudioka” on Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu. Eze Obiefule is the national President of the Traditional Rulers Association of Nigeria and patron of the Imo State Council of Ndieze. He also serves as zonal chairman of the Orlu Traditional Institute and community policing body. He has reigned for over 40 years. The new title recognizes Senator Anyanwu’s outstanding contributions to social development, political reinvigoration, and public service. Anyanwu is a former National Secretary of the PDP’s Caretaker Committee and was recently re-elected National Secretary of the party. Anyanwu already holds several chieftaincy honors, including “Obioha I of Igboland” and “Enyi I of Aba.” He was the PDP’s candidate in the 2023 Imo State governorship election and enjoys broad support across party lines.

I'm not convinced a ceremonial title changes much—political performance matters more than cultural honors in the long term.

Local leaders could hold a town hall to explain how this appointment will affect development projects and community priorities.
