TOOAN Members to Stage Peaceful Protest Over NURTW “Extortion” Claims
Aggrieved members of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN) have declared April 28, 2026, as a day of peaceful protest against alleged mismanagement and extortion within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). They trace deep-rooted problems to decisions made under past zonal chairmen in Lagos, accusing the leadership of entrenching inequality, weakening accountability, and pushing thousands of operators to the brink. The protesters demand full transparency, independent investigations by anti-corruption agencies, and a complete overhaul of union structures. They insist their movement will remain peaceful but unwavering in seeking justice. On April 28, they vow to reject any system that rewards a few at the expense of many and to hold NURTW leaders fully accountable.
