Time Is Running Out: How AI Could Devastate Nigeria’s Workforce

Time Is Running Out: How AI Could Devastate Nigeria’s Workforce

Many Nigerians believe today’s hardship is the worst we’ll face. I hate to be blunt: it could get much worse. In developed countries, companies invest billions in AI and robotics. Amazon already uses robots to pick, pack and prep orders. Customer service, software, accounting and admin roles are shrinking fast. Nigeria and Africa are somewhat insulated today. But in 2–5 years, this tech will become cheaper and local banks, telcos, media houses and government agencies will automate millions of jobs. With high unemployment, insecurity and weak institutions, this looming shift could trigger a national crisis. We can’t afford politics as usual. It’s time to hold leaders accountable and chart a new course.
