Timi Frank Blames Tinubu for Yoruba Muslims’ Absence at El-Rufai’s Mother’s Burial

Timi Frank Blames Tinubu for Yoruba Muslims’ Absence at El-Rufai’s Mother’s Burial

Ambassador Timi Frank says national unity has collapsed under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He warns that sharp divisions now emerge even among people of the same faith. Frank pointed to the burial of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s mother, where no southwestern Yoruba Muslim was present. He argues this absence reflects fear of persecution by the President. He noted that Peter Obi, a Christian, attended the ceremony in solidarity. Frank asked why Yoruba Muslims would avoid a “Muslim-Muslim” presidency when other Nigerians showed up. He cautioned that if Tinubu wins a second term, divisions may deepen further. Frank also highlighted that El-Rufai, once a key ally, now faces persecution despite helping Tinubu secure power.

Could these divisions among Yoruba Muslims be driven more by local politics than the presidency alone?

Might regional power dynamics within the Southwest shape these rifts more than federal leadership?

That's plausible; local power struggles often play a major role alongside national leadership in community divisions.

It's interesting that no southwestern Yoruba Muslims attended that burial if unity truly holds under Tinubu.
