EFCC Arraigns Borno Man for ₦25.6m Beans Fraud

EFCC Arraigns Borno Man for ₦25.6m Beans Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi before the Borno State High Court for allegedly obtaining 400 bags of beans worth ₦25,647,000 under false pretences. He faces a two-count charge of criminal misappropriation and obtaining by false pretence. EFCC counsel told the court Korimi promised to supply the beans to customers in Ogun State and pay within a week despite knowing he could not. Korimi pleaded not guilty. The prosecution requested his remand pending trial. Justice Kumaliya adjourned proceedings to April 22, 2026, for a bail hearing and ordered him held at Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility.

I'm not convinced beans worth ₦25 million is that shocking compared to other commodity frauds we hear about.

Merchants should verify procurement records and demand receipts before releasing large shipments to prevent similar fraud.
