Pickford Ready to Step Up for Spot-Kicks at World Cup
England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says he is ready to volunteer for spot-kicks if a shootout goes to penalties at the upcoming World Cup. The 32-year-old has already proved himself in high-pressure moments, making crucial saves in the 2018 World Cup and both Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 shootouts. He also converted a penalty in the 2019 Nations League final against Switzerland. Now in the United States for final preparations, including friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica, Pickford is practising his own spot-kicks alongside his goalkeeping drills. “I’ll back myself 100 per cent,” he said, adding that he will step up whenever England needs him. England open their Group L campaign against Croatia in Dallas on June 17, then face Ghana on June 23 and Panama on June 27.
