Free fibroid surgeries have started at Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital under a medical outreach for Anambra residents. The programme marks the birthdays of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Nonye Soludo. The outreach provides free screening, treatment and myomectomy procedures for eligible women with fibroids or ovarian cysts. Patients who completed registration and screening are already undergoing surgery at designated centres. The programme also includes free cataract surgery, glaucoma screening and treatment at the Anambra State Specialist Eye Centre in Nise, as well as free hernia surgeries at General Hospital, Umueri. Medical teams have been deployed to provide care throughout the exercise.

It sounds helpful, but people should still confirm eligibility and what the programme actually covers before relying on it.

The birthday-linked outreach is welcome, but sustained access to fibroid care beyond special programmes would matter even more.

Anyone interested should start with the screening, ask about eligibility, and keep any hospital records handy before going.
