Reject Ethnic Stereotypes: Judge by Character, Not Tribe
Media often frames crime along ethnic lines, and this fuels division. As an Igbo man, I’ve endured unfair stereotypes and been judged by my origin instead of my character. Many Fulani men face similar prejudice for crimes they did not commit or condone. Crime has no ethnicity. Thieves, kidnappers and terrorists act alone, not as representatives of any people. We should identify and punish them under the law, not condemn entire communities for the deeds of a few. Critics note that some political figures have made contradictory statements—advising against supporting politicians of other ethnicities or demolishing markets tied to specific groups. This underscores the need for genuine unity based on justice and mutual respect.
