Super Falcons’ Warm-Up Clash with Black Queens Called Off Ahead of WAFCON

Super Falcons’ Warm-Up Clash with Black Queens Called Off Ahead of WAFCON — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will miss a key friendly against Ghana’s Black Queens after the match was cancelled for undisclosed reasons. The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed the game, scheduled for July 18 in Casablanca, is off. This preparation match was set to sharpen both sides before the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which doubles as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Head coach Justine Madugu and his squad have been training in Morocco ahead of their title defence. The Falcons open their WAFCON campaign against Malawi on July 28 in Group C, where they also face Zambia and Egypt. Ghana’s Black Queens compete in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde.

Do you really think missing that friendly will leave them underprepared for WAFCON?

Canceling a high-profile friendly at this stage seems odd, especially with undisclosed reasons. It could signal organizational issues ahead of the tournament.

Has the football federation given any clue about why this warm-up game was scrapped so late?

I'm not convinced that a single canceled friendly will derail their WAFCON campaign, teams adapt all the time and find alternatives.

The NFF should arrange a replacement match or ramp up training sessions on home soil to maintain the Falcons' competitive edge.
