Governor Eno Approves ₦5.9bn for Holistic Basic Education Overhaul in Akwa Ibom
Governor Umo Eno has released ₦5.9 billion for basic education reforms in Akwa Ibom State. The funds will cover intervention projects for 2025–2026, supporting a new curriculum rollout, teacher recruitment, and comprehensive infrastructure upgrades. The SUBEB chairman, Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, PhD, said schools will receive holistic interventions: classrooms, water, toilets and electricity. He warned communities against vandalism and urged local ownership of facilities to protect government investments. The board plans to recruit 1,000 additional teachers, with priority given to ICT and computer science graduates to strengthen digital literacy. Community leaders and parent-teacher associations are called on to resolve school-land disputes and support smooth school operations. The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists commended the recruitment plan, noting its importance for rural schools and overall education delivery.
