To mark Children’s Day 2026, the Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative (SCCWI), in partnership with donors and volunteers, provided free meals and drinking water to more than 3,000 vulnerable children and persons with disabilities across Lagos and parts of Ogun State. Under its annual Feed The Children Project, launched in 2020, SCCWI mobilised over 30 volunteers from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun. Teams reached slums and underserved communities including Oko Agbon, Ikorodu, the IDP camp at Igbo Efon, Lekki, Oshodi, Mushin, Ologo Otto Slum, Oko Baba, Yaba and selected areas in Ogun State. Beneficiaries and community leaders praised the outreach. A young child said, “Thank you for the food. I am happy today.” One volunteer added that seeing children smile made every minute worthwhile. SCCWI emphasised its commitment to partnering with individuals and agencies to ensure no child goes hungry.

Absolutely! Groups could host periodic fundraisers, volunteer in meal prep, or collaborate with local businesses to sustain this feeding program throughout the year.

Setting up free meals is noble, yet focusing solely on a single day might overlook ongoing nutritional needs of these children.

Local businesses could donate surplus food weekly to complement SCCWI's annual event, ensuring vulnerable groups receive regular meals and support.
