Adeyemi Urges Tinubu to Set Up Independent Panel for PFIPC ₦1.3bn Investigation

Adeyemi Urges Tinubu to Set Up Independent Panel for PFIPC ₦1.3bn Investigation

Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent, multi-stakeholder panel to probe the disputed ₦1.3 billion allocation to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). He welcomed the President’s directive for the ICPC to investigate but said a single-agency inquiry may not guarantee full transparency or public confidence. Facing accusations of impersonating the PFIPC director general, Adeyemi argued that a broader inquiry would ensure fairness and mitigate threats to his safety if he surrendered under current conditions. He cited credible intelligence suggesting personal risk without independent oversight. This call comes amid ongoing probes into the PFIPC’s alleged fictitious formation and the controversial budget insertion in the 2026 Appropriation Bill. Authorities are also investigating claims of forgery, impersonation and related offences.

Could an independent panel really uncover all the facts behind PFIPC's disputed ₦1.3bn allocation?

Which criteria would ensure the panel stays independent from political influence?

It's interesting that the ICPC directive came only after Adeyemi's public appeal for transparency.

True enough, but isn't it normal for agencies to act once spotlight shines on them, not just one voice?

I'm not convinced a panel will change much without clear enforcement measures from the presidency.

Selecting panel members from diverse sectors and publishing timelines could boost credibility and public trust in the investigation.
