Ryan Alebiosu Shortlisted for Blackburn Rovers Player of the Season

Ryan Alebiosu’s outstanding displays at right-back have earned him a nomination for Blackburn Rovers’ Player of the Season award, according to Completesports.com. The 24-year-old has recorded one goal and five assists in 40 league appearances this season. His form also secured him a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Injury restricted his Super Eagles involvement to one group-stage appearance against Uganda, but he remains one of Rovers’ standout performers. He joins Balazs Toth, Sean McLoughlin, Lewis Miller, Eiran Cashin, Sondre Tronstad, Ryoya Morishita, Andri Guðjohnsen and Yuki Ohashi on the shortlist.

With one goal and five assists in 40 league appearances, could Alebiosu's defensive solidity be the real reason for his nomination?

Absolutely. His reliable tackles and interceptions probably stood out and earned him that nomination.

Defensive work is key, but one goal and five assists hardly screams standout. Maybe there's more context.

Scoring just one goal and five assists doesn't automatically make him best right-back; some stats can be misleading in evaluating fullback quality.

I get the hype, but Blackburn have struggled defensively overall, so can one player really stand out that much in a shaky back line?

If Blackburn want to capitalize on his form, they should consider offering him more structured attacking roles to boost his confidence further.
