Is Calling an Older Person 'Bro' Disrespectful or Just a Generational Quirk?
I went to an elderly woman’s shop for a business deal. She asked her teenage daughter to handle WhatsApp since the mum isn’t fully familiar with it. I sent a video explaining the work request. In the screenshot, I got a greeting and then “Bro” before any formal address. That term surprised me coming from someone much younger in a professional context. I was trained to use respectful titles like “sir” when dealing with older adults, especially in business. Is this just modern slang, or is it genuinely disrespectful? Am I overreacting? In a face-to-face meeting, would she still say “bro”? In your opinion, should I let it go, correct her, or walk away from the deal?
