NANS Calls for Upgrade of Abapawa Police Post to Enhance Security at TASFUED

NANS Calls for Upgrade of Abapawa Police Post to Enhance Security at TASFUED

The National Association of Nigerian Students has asked for the Abapawa Police Post near Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, Ijagun to be elevated to a full divisional headquarters. The move aims to address rising security concerns affecting students and staff. During a visit by NANS officials, national secretary Comrade Oladimeji Uthman highlighted the poor state of the access road to the campus. He warned that bad roads and inadequate policing undermine academic excellence and campus safety. The student delegation also inspected the police post, where officers explained current measures to safeguard the community. They urged students to stay alert, protect personal information, and report suspicious activity. Uthman appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security infrastructure around higher institutions and rehabilitate critical access roads for a safer learning environment.

Turning a police post into a divisional HQ sounds promising, but bureaucratic delays might still leave campus areas vulnerable for months.

That plan seems expensive when boosting patrols at existing stations might be more effective and quicker for TASFUED security.

Local student groups should partner with the police to report hotspots and coordinate community watches while waiting for that upgrade.
