Court Dismisses Suit, Declares Goodluck Jonathan Eligible for 2027 Race
A Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Tuesday that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election. The judge dismissed a suit seeking to bar him from the race. Justice Peter Lifu held that the petitioner failed to show any legal basis or personal injury. He described the case as an abuse of court time and awarded N20 million in costs to Jonathan and N1 million to the Attorney General of the Federation. The suit filed by an Abuja lawyer challenged Jonathan’s eligibility under constitutional term limits. The court also rejected the lawyer’s request for the judge to recuse himself.
