Ogun Customs Seize N6.77bn Smuggled Goods, 10,126 Parcels of ‘Ghana Loud’
The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, intercepted 10,126 parcels of cannabis indica, known as Ghana Loud, with an estimated street value of over N5bn. This follows a recent handover of 2,543 parcels of cannabis sativa to the NDLEA Idiroko Command. In five weeks, the command recorded 73 seizures across Ogun State. Items include 26 sacks of raw cannabis sativa, 1,759 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 14,550 litres of Premium Motor Spirit in jerrycans, vegetable oil, unregistered Analgin injections and six live pangolins. Acting Customs Area Comptroller Olukayode Afeni said the cumulative duty-paid value of the seized items is N6.77bn. He warned that illicit drugs fuel armed robbery, kidnapping and terrorism. He added that 26,002 parcels of cannabis have been intercepted since January. Afeni urged the public to support security agencies in curbing smuggling and economic sabotage. He also highlighted that the command generated N125.4m for the Federation Account through baggage assessments and fuel auctions since mid-March.
