Why Has Bishop Kukah Gone Silent on Nigeria’s Rising Insecurity?

Why Has Bishop Kukah Gone Silent on Nigeria’s Rising Insecurity?

Dear Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, I write in respect to your powerful interventions during the Buhari years. Your Christmas letters exposed a nation “at war with itself” and called leaders to account for bloodshed in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Benue, Plateau and beyond. Since President Tinubu’s inauguration and your new role at the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the headlines on violence have softened. Has peace truly returned, or has your moral voice become selective depending on who holds power? Nigeria still needs your consistent, principled clarity. If insecurity has eased, you deserve praise. But if the forests remain unsafe and cries for justice go unheard, we rely on your conscience more than ever.

What reasons might explain Bishop Kukah's recent silence on escalating violence across Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Benue states?

Is there any sign he's focusing on other crises instead of these four states?

Maybe he hasn't been silent at all. He might be engaging behind the scenes instead of public statements.

His previous Christmas letters were scathing, so it does seem odd that he hasn't spoken up about the recent bloodshed in Plateau and beyond.

Maybe he's focusing on other forms of engagement rather than public letters, so we shouldn't assume silence equals indifference so quickly.

Local communities should track his upcoming statements and rally for clearer dialogue with religious leaders on security reforms across troubled states.
