Super Falcons Set for Pre-WAFCON Friendlies Against Cape Verde

Super Falcons Set for Pre-WAFCON Friendlies Against Cape Verde

The Super Falcons will take on Cape Verde in a series of friendly matches this month. Venue and dates are yet to be confirmed. These warm-up games will fine-tune Nigeria’s squad ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, now rescheduled for July. In their last break, the Falcons faced Cameroon in two friendlies. At WAFCON 2026, Nigeria are drawn in Group C with Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt. Cape Verde make their debut in Group D alongside Cameroon, Ghana, and Mali. The tournament also doubles as qualification for the next Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Coverage by Adeboye Amosu.

Hmm, we can't write off these friendlies just yet; they're key for testing tactics despite unknown dates.

Friendly fixtures often bring limited intensity, so I wonder if Cape Verde will truly challenge Nigeria's Super Falcons this month.

We shouldn't assume success just because these are warm-ups; real tests only come when tournament pressure kicks in.

Coaches should focus on rotating the squad and testing defensive tactics before WAFCON to identify reliable options under match conditions.
