Nigerian Woman Seeks Help as Brother’s Alleged Drug Addiction Worsens

A Nigerian woman has appealed for help over her brother’s alleged drug addiction, which she says began after he gained admission to the University of Lagos in 2019. She said she has taken him to about seven psychiatric and treatment facilities, including hospitals in Yaba and a military hospital, but his condition has reportedly worsened. According to her, he has become violent, destructive and often wanders around Lagos. The woman said years of caring for him have left her exhausted. She moved out with her daughter for safety, but said her brother and parents later came to stay with her after they were evicted. She is seeking advice and support on where he can receive effective treatment.

I agree; repeated efforts can take a heavy emotional toll. I wonder what kind of support the family has around them too.

The admission timeline may be part of the story, but it seems too simple to assume university alone caused the alleged addiction.

Keeping records from each facility and asking for a coordinated follow-up plan could help the family avoid repeating the same steps.
