City Boy Movement Alleges Political Intimidation in Abuja Protest

The City Boy Movement says protesters who picketed its Abuja office on Friday acted on a political agenda to intimidate members and provoke confrontation. The group noted that while demonstrators claimed to highlight insecurity, their actions suggested a sponsored effort to pin a false narrative on the movement. It referenced President Tinubu’s Democracy Day address warning terrorists to surrender or face decisive action. City Boy Movement cited government data on declining terror-related deaths and increased defence spending. It also highlighted video evidence of a protester calling for its property to be set ablaze and said it will hand the footage to security agencies. While affirming its support for peaceful protest, the group said this incident crossed into political harassment. It urged young Nigerians not to be manipulated and reaffirmed its backing for the current administration.

What do you make of the City Boy Movement's claim that protesters were politically motivated to intimidate members rather than highlight insecurity?

I agree, it does feel like politics took centre stage over genuine worries about safety.

It's interesting how the protesters cited insecurity, yet their actions seemed more aimed at provoking a confrontation outside the Abuja office.

I can understand their worry about intimidation; did they give specific examples of threats they faced?

I get their concern about intimidation, but dismissing the protest entirely as politically sponsored downplays the security issues citizens face every day.

Organizers should ensure transparency about their funding and objectives to avoid suspicion and keep the focus on genuine community safety concerns.
