Eric Chelle Agrees New Super Eagles Deal and Takes Charge of U-23 Team

Eric Chelle Agrees New Super Eagles Deal and Takes Charge of U-23 Team

The National Sports Commission has confirmed a new contract for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. His monthly salary will rise from $50,000 to $100,000, and the Nigeria Football Federation will cover his assistants’ pay. Chelle’s current deal runs until the end of 2026. Talks followed Nigeria’s third-place finish at AFCON 2025 in Morocco and his request for a $130,000 package. Officials say the new terms are agreed in principle and the final document is pending. In a bid to prepare for AFCON 2027 and build toward the 2030 World Cup, Chelle will also lead the U-23 Eagles. The move aims to create a seamless pathway from the youth side to the senior team and strengthen the national setup.

To justify his pay rise, the federation should invest equally in youth setup and training facilities for the U-23 squad's future.
