Tuchel Lashes Out at Pickford in Fiery Touchline Showdown During World Cup Opener

Tuchel Lashes Out at Pickford in Fiery Touchline Showdown During World Cup Opener — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel erupted on the touchline during England’s 4-2 win over Croatia in Dallas. The former Chelsea manager, acting in a guest role, was furious with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s decision under pressure just 17 minutes into the Group L match. Pickford’s unexpected pass across the penalty area went against Tuchel’s pre-match instructions. Pitchside microphones later captured their heated exchange, with Tuchel snapping: “No, put it out to the right-back… Do as I told you!” England regrouped after the confrontation, but assistant coach Anthony Barry admitted at halftime that the team’s nervous start had hindered their game plan. Next up for England is Ghana on June 23, and a win could guarantee their progress from the group.

What do you think prompted Tuchel's reaction on the touchline? Was it justified or just too much pressure from the big stage?

You reckon it stemmed from Pickford's challenge or more about game tactics getting him riled?

Tuchel has always been passionate, but lashing out like that so early seems out of character for a guest coach role.

Hold on, Pickford's decision under pressure looked safe enough. Maybe Tuchel is off more on reputation than the reality here.

If Chelsea want to maintain control, they need clearer communication lines, especially when under the heat of a major tournament opener.
