Canada Plans Single High-Skilled Express Entry Stream: What Nigerians Should Know
Canada is considering merging its three main Express Entry streams — Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades — into one high-skilled immigration program. The change aims to simplify the application process and reduce overlap. Under the proposed system, candidates would enter a single pool and be selected based on labour market needs. Priority sectors may include healthcare, STEM fields, skilled trades, transportation, agriculture and French-speaking applicants. Strong language scores and Canadian work or study experience could carry even more weight. At present, nothing has changed. All three programs remain active while IRCC studies the idea in its regulatory planning. Applicants can continue creating profiles under the current rules and wait for official updates. Prospective immigrants should use this time to improve language test scores, gain relevant work experience, and monitor occupation-focused draws. Staying prepared will make the transition smoother if the new high-skilled class is adopted.
