Why Kano Tops Nigeria’s Ranking for Best State to Raise a Family
SBM Intelligence has published a report on where Nigerian families actually thrive. It reviewed living conditions in eight states from January to May 2026. The study drew on a Quality of Life Survey with 442 respondents and a Power Survey with 191. It examined 15 factors including income, healthcare, electricity, childcare, education, safety, housing costs and overall living conditions. Kano topped the list. Residents praised the state’s electricity supply, security, affordable living costs and access to childcare. Rivers came second thanks to stronger healthcare services and family stability. Abuja ranked fourth with good incomes and social support but higher living costs. Cross River placed last amid concerns over infrastructure and services. The findings challenge the view that wealthier cities automatically offer the best environment for raising children.
