LASBCA Demolishes Distressed Six-Floor Building at Parkview Estate, Ikoyi

Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency removed a distressed six-floor residential building at No. 10 Olufemi Pedro Street in Parkview Estate, Ikoyi. A routine inspection uncovered foundation failure, differential settlement and multiple cracks on structural elements. Before demolition, LASBCA issued Contravention, Seal-Up and Demolition notices in line with statutory regulations. Enforcement teams had sealed the property, but the owner did not respond to any notices served. The removal aimed to prevent a possible collapse and protect lives and neighbouring properties. The Agency stressed its ongoing commitment to enforcing building control standards across Lagos State. Property owners and developers are urged to obtain all necessary approvals before construction and to address structural defects promptly when notified.

It's surprising that foundation failure and multiple structural cracks went unnoticed until that six-floor building needed demolition.

I know safety matters, but demolishing an entire building over foundation cracks seems overly drastic when repairs might suffice.

Homeowners must schedule frequent structural surveys and soil analysis to catch early warning signs before collapse risks rise.
