How 14-Year-Old Adeolu Oreofe Became Africa’s Junior Spelling Champion

How 14-Year-Old Adeolu Oreofe Became Africa’s Junior Spelling Champion

At just 14, Adeolu Oluwadamilola Oreofe from Ekiti State topped the 2026 African Spelling Bee in the Junior category held in Harare, Zimbabwe. She rose steadily through competitions, placing second at the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee and the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee. After a fifth-place finish at the 2025 African Spelling Bee and another runner-up spot at the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee, she clinched the continental crown this year. Her victory earned her a $5,000 education scholarship and a ticket to represent Africa at the World Spelling Bee in China. Adeolu’s dedication and consistency showcase the resilience and potential of Nigerian youth.
